How to Play Dust 2 Like a Pro: CS2 Strategy Guide

Dust 2 is one of the oldest maps of CS2, developed far in Counter-Strike 1.1 and released in March of 2001. Its design is inspired by the Middle Eastern town filled with sand, stone buildings, and many Arabic signs.

The map is one of the most balanced ones from the Active Pool Maps, which allows both sides to show their skills on max. Both teams have many routes to plan their pushes and defense, and it makes Dust 2 one of the most favored maps of all time.

In this guide, we will cover several aspects that explain “How to Play Dust 2 like a Pro Player”:

  • Master Dust 2 Callouts
  • Know the Key Positions on Dust 2
  • How to defend as CT
  • How to push as T
  • Timing and Rotations
  • How to Use Line-Ups on Dust 2

Let's start with how to Master Dust 2 Callouts.

Master Dust 2 Callouts

Besides being balanced, Dust 2 is an easy-to-understand map that has no complex structures like Nuke, which helps users to master Dust 2 callouts more easily. Callouts are extremely important to know because it helps you to communicate effectively with your teammates.

When a player gets shot and doesn't know the name of a certain callout, it makes his death useless, as he is not able to inform the team about the location of the enemy.

If you are looking to get better at Dust 2, you can try reading our article about Dust 2 Callouts, as it will help you master callouts.

Know the Key Positions on Dust 2

The most crucial positions are the ones that are more commonly used for pushes or rotations, and for Dust 2:

  • Long - It is the most important point for controlling the A-Site. If you have it under control, then A-Site is yours.
  • Short (Catwalk) - A point that connects A-Site and Mid, and offers a quick rotation opportunity.
  • Mid - The central area of the map that is crucial for control and information collection. It connects the T and CT sides by a straight line.
  • B-Site - Is one of the two sites of Dust 2, which is known for narrow entry points and challenging retakes.

How to Defend as CT

The most common tactics Counter-Terrorists use when playing on Dust 2 are:

  • 2 players focusing on Long
  • 1 player focusing on Mid to Short.
  • 1 player holding B-Site.
  • 1 player checking Mid to B.

This is widely used by most of the players, and it can change depending on the enemy’s tactics. It can also become:

  • 1 person holding Long.
  • 1 person on Catwalk checking Mid and helping A-Site.
  • 1 on Mid.
  • 2 on B-Site, securely holding the most challenging site.

How to Push as T

Now for Terrorists. For them, it is more flexible as they are the ones who can change their attack points. Mostly, Terrorists use these tactics for A-Site pushes:

  • 3 players on Long for an A-Site attack.
  • 1 player controlling Upper and Lower Tunnels.
  • 1 person holding Mid.

For the B-Site, it is as follows:

  • 3 players in Tunnels preparing to push B-Site.
  • 2  player on Mid checking Catwalk and Mid Doors.

This flexible push positioning allow Terrorists to rotate between the sites whenever they feel that they are under pressure.

Timing and Rotations

Mastering the map callouts and knowing key positions is only the starting point of mastering the map. You should also focus on the timing for rotations for tactical pushes or defenses. Knowing when and where to rotate allows players to be ready for any moves from the opponent.

Quick decision-making in rotations play crucial roles of exploiting momentary weaknesses of the enemy's positioning.

Synergy and Communication

One of the most important things a player can do is communicate with the team and build a friendly synergy that allows the team to play effectively. Whether it is just information on an enemy place or a friendly conversation, try not to flood the voice chat much. People like to play without any side noises that distract them from hearing game sounds.

The less toxic the environment, the more chances to win the round you have. When an argument arises between two team members, most of the time it resolves when one of them kills the other and gets kicked.

However, you should not allow that to happen because 4vs5 gives you less chance to win. Try solving the argument by finding a solution that will work for both. Take leader role if possible, guide, and everything will work out.

How to Use Dust 2 Line-ups

There are lots of different smoke, flash, and molotov line-ups on Dust 2, but some of them are too hard to perform or just are not useful.

For Counter-Terrorists, several important smokes that help them to stop Ts from early round pushes, for example:

  • Long Doors smoke from CT-Car.
CS2 Dust 2 Long smoke for CTs from CT-Car to Long Doors

To perform it, you should stand next to the left back tire of the Car, look towards the Long buildings' metal tip, and just left-click throw. This smoke lands right in front of the Long Doors, which gives CTs an advantage against Ts rushing from the Doors.

  • Suicide smoke from CT Mid.

To do this line-up, you will need to get to CT Mid, stand next to the wall tip, aim at the dark-colored bit on the corner of the first stone wall, and jump throw the smoke. It will land right in the Suicide and will block Ts AWP vision, and allow to get to Mid more securely.

Terrorists have more smoke options, and it is natural because without smokes, it is hard for Ts to make pushes. For Ts, the most crucial smokes are:

  • Long Corner smoke from T-Car.

This smoke is essential for A-Site rushes, as it blocks CT's vision from the famous Long Corner, which allows Ts to push CTs from Long Doors. Most of the time, CTs are too shocked by that smoke and can’t find a better way than running to the Site.

To perform this smoke, you will need to stand right next to the left back wheel of the T-Car, which is located right next to the Long Doors entrance. Next, you will need to aim at the intersection of the tree’s leaf and the building and just left-click throw.

  • B-Site Doors smoke from Outside Tunnels.

To do this smoke line-up, you need to be standing on the right corner of Outside Tunnels, aim at the middle of the splotch on the wall, as shown in the photo, and then perform a jump throw.

This smoke will land right between the B-Doors and will block the visibility from the CT Mid fully, limiting CTs’ vision.

  • B-Site Window smoke from Outside Tunnels.

Similarly to the B-Site Doors smoke, get to the same position, but aim a bit lower, at the small dot, and perform a jump throw with a left click.

This time, the smoke will land on the window and block CT’s AWP vision from Window.

If you want to practice your line-ups on any map, then you should definitely try reading an article about How to Practice Line-ups in CS2.
