Is Cache Officially Confirmed to be back in CS2?
Cache is one of the most popular maps in Counter-Strike history, and players have been asking for it back since CS2 launched in 2023. After Cache was removed from competitive in March 2019, it became clear pretty quickly that the community was never going to get over it, with posts about the map showing up every week for seven years straight.
Now that wait seems to be close to over, and the community pretty much agrees Cache is coming back to CS2. After months of hints, fans now expect the map to officially return on April 29.
The prediction comes from two moves Valve made last week. First, on April 22, the CS2 X account swapped its banner to what fans quickly identified as Cache's T-spawn. Then two days later, Valve posted a clip of CS:GO Cache moments captioned "what are you doing next week?"
If the CS2 devs aren't trolling the entire CS community, you can expect Cache to land tomorrow.
April 29 Update: Cache is back in CS2!

What we know for sure about Cache
For anyone out of the loop, Cache wasn't actually owned by Valve until last year. The map, a community favorite for years and a regular in the CS:GO Major circuit, was originally built and owned by community creators FMPONE and Volcano.
That changed in March 2025, when FMPONE released a full CS2 remake of Cache on the Workshop and Valve reached out to buy it. By May 2025, the sale was done, and Valve owned Cache for the first time.
That was the first real sign something was going to happen. The community's nostalgia for the map combined with Valve's willingness to actually buy it pointed in one direction.
But it wasn't until late 2025 that Valve gave a clear signal of its own.

In late December, the official CS2 account on X posted a year-end message thanking the community for 2025 and looking ahead to the new year, except the zero in "2026" was swapped for a nuclear radiation symbol.
That small change was all fans needed. They connected it to Cache instantly, since radiation is the map's signature.

Fast-forward to January, and Valve replied to a NAVI post asking about Cache with two words: "It's cooking."
The map was officially in development.
By April, the teasing turned into a countdown. The CS2 X account swapped its banner to an image of Cache's T-spawn. This same playbook Valve used days before Train's launch in November 2024.
And as if the banner wasn't enough, just two days later, the official @CounterStrike account posted a highlight reel of pro plays on Cache with one line of text: "What are you doing next week?"

The post exploded with millions of views and was treated by the community as an official release announcement, even though no actual date was attached.
Now most fans expect Cache to drop tomorrow, April 29, or at the latest sometime in the next few days. The community is so confident that even the analysts who were betting on later windows have started shifting their predictions.
CS2 analyst Thour originally predicted the release between May 7 and 14, based on previous map release patterns. Thour also expected Cache to land in competitive matchmaking first, then move into Premier Season 5 after the next Major, likely replacing Overpass.
But based on the "what are you doing next week?" post, the map might drop before May even starts.
That timeline still makes sense when you factor in the competitive calendar. Pushing a new map straight into the Active Duty pool mid-season would be chaotic, since teams need time to build strategies, run practice matches, and develop utility setups before it matters at a tournament level.
So even if Cache lands tomorrow, it's unlikely to hit the official competitive pool right away. The more realistic path is a soft launch in matchmaking first, with the Active Duty addition coming after the Major.
But either way, the answer is clear: Cache is coming back to CS2, and it's coming soon.
