CS2 July 9 Update: Premier Season 5, Cache Returns, And More
Premier Season 5 is now live in Counter-Strike 2, bringing one of the biggest updates of 2026 so far.
Cache has officially joined the Active Duty map pool, C4 explosion mechanics have been completely reworked, and the Armory weapon and sticker collections have been rotated.
The update also upgrades Source 2, refreshes the community map rotation, improves performance, and expands Workshop tools for skin creators.
If you wanna learn more about the update, you're in the right place. Here's everything you need to know.
Premier Season 5 is Live

The biggest headline is the start of Premier Season Five, meaning players can begin climbing the new leaderboard and earning a fresh CS Rating.
As expected with every new season, medals were awarded, and rankings were reset, giving everyone another opportunity to establish themselves in Premier.
Cache Joins Active Duty
Perhaps the most exciting competitive change is the return of Cache. It hasn't been in the active map pool since Vertigo replaced it in 2019.
Now, the legendary map officially replaces Overpass in the Active Duty map pool, making it available for Premier competition and future esports tournaments.
The Active Duty Map Pool after the update looks like this:
- Ancient
- Anubis
- Cache (New)
- Dust II
- Inferno
- Mirage
- Nuke
- Train
Although Overpass has been removed from Active Duty, it remains available in other game modes.
Cache has long been one of Counter-Strike's most iconic maps, known for its balanced layout, memorable mid control, and exciting rifle rounds. Its return is expected to significantly shake up the competitive meta over the coming months.
C4 Explosion Damage Rework

Another major gameplay change focuses on bomb explosions. Valve has redesigned how C4 damage is calculated across every official Defusal map.
Instead of relying on real-time calculations, explosion damage is now based on precomputed simulation values embedded directly into each compiled map.
Valve has also changed how the explosion behaves. Rather than instantly applying damage to every player within range, the shockwave now rapidly expands outward from the center of the explosion.
Although the difference happens in fractions of a second, this creates a more physically accurate simulation and could slightly affect edge-case survivability near the blast radius.
Players should notice more consistent bomb damage across all official maps.
The Armory Update
While it was highly expected for quite a long time, the Armory has finally received two completely new community-created weapon collections and two sticker collections, following Valve's recent Call to Arms event.
Spy Tech Collection

The Spy Tech Collection introduces modern, futuristic weapon finishes featuring sleek industrial styling, clean lines, and high-tech aesthetics.
There are in total of 17 skins, and the grades are rarities are divided as follows:
- 2 Coverts
- 2 Classified
- 3 Restricted
- 4 Mil-Spec Grade
- 6 Industrial Grade
Arabesque Collection
The Arabesque Collection offers an entirely different visual direction, featuring intricate ornamental patterns inspired by traditional geometric artwork.

The Arabesque Collection also has 17 skins, and the grades are rarities are divided as follows:
- 2 Coverts
- 2 Classified
- 3 Restricted
- 4 Mil-Spec Grade
- 6 Industrial Grade
These collections replace the following retired Armory collections:
- Train 2025 Collection
- Sport & Field Collection
If you were planning to redeem Armory Credits for those collections, they are no longer available.
Valve also added two new sticker collections.
Auto Racing and Fruits & Vegetables Collections

Fruits & Vegetables Collection includes colorful and playful food-themed stickers. On the other hand, Auto Racing Sticker Collection includes a motorsport-inspired sticker collection with racing designs and automotive themes.
These replace the following collections:
- Sugarface 2
- Elemental Craft
Like the retired weapon collections, these stickers are no longer obtainable.
Community Map Rotation Updated

Valve has refreshed the Community Map rotation across several game modes, removing older Workshop maps and introducing several new creations for players to explore.
Removed Maps
The following community maps have been removed from the rotation:
- Warden
- Stronghold
- Alpine
- Sanctum
Interestingly, Poseidon remains in the Wingman map pool despite this refresh, making it one of the few community maps to carry over into the latest rotation.
Added to Competitive, Casual & Deathmatch

Three new community maps are now available in Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch:
- Boulder
- Fachwerk
- Shelter
These additions offer players fresh layouts to learn and provide new opportunities for community map creators to showcase their work to a wider audience. There's an interesting fact about the map Shelter, which is a hostage map. Instead of a human hostage, the map displays dog
Added to Wingman
Wingman players also receive two new maps:
- Debris
- El Dorado
These maps replace some of the previous Wingman selections, introducing new angles, strategies, and close-quarters engagements for the 2v2 mode.
Community map rotations are regularly updated to highlight some of the best Workshop creations, keeping the experience fresh while giving talented map creators the chance to have their work featured in Counter-Strike 2.

New features include:
- Dedicated overlay mask textures
- Independent overlay UV randomization
- Separate overlay control from albedo randomization
These additions give Workshop artists more flexibility when designing future weapon finishes.
Miscellaneous Improvements
Valve included several smaller but useful improvements throughout the game.

- Fixed an issue where purchasing dropped weapons through the Buy Menu could occasionally fail
- CS2's engine has also been upgraded to the latest Source 2 version.
While Valve did not publish detailed technical notes, engine updates typically include backend optimizations, bug fixes, and improvements that support future features.
