Infinite Smokes, Nades, and More: How to Practice Line-Ups in CS2

When you dig deeper into CS2, learning smoke and other nade line-ups becomes inevitable. In lower ranks, it's not that essential, but if you're taking the game seriously, knowing the basics is a must.

Recently, Valve added a feature that displays nade line-ups within the game's Casual Mode. While it does help to learn, the servers are so crowded and chaotic that it's almost impossible to throw a normal smoke. That's why it's more convenient to get to your own server and train. To make it even better, you can also turn on the "Infinite Ammo" feature to have infinite ammo and utility. And here's how to do it.

Setting Up the Perfect Practice Server

The best way to learn smoke and grenade line-ups in CS2 is on a custom practice server.

In CS2, click Play → Practice → Casual menu, pick a map, and enable the practice toggles shown (Grenade Camera, Infinite Warmup, Infinite Ammo, Map Guide). These checkboxes give you the basic tools for endless practice. For example, turning on Infinite Ammo means your grenades will never run out.

If you forget to turn these switches on, you can always do that via the console.

Open the dev console, type in sv_cheats 1, and press Enter to enable cheat commands. Now, you're ready to set up your server.

Essential Console Commands

Several console commands are essential for creating an ideal practice environment (enter them after sv_cheats 1):

mp_warmuptime 99999 - Makes the warmup long enough for you to practice
mp_warmup_start - Necessary in case the game with bots started without a warmup.
sv_infinite_ammo 1 – Infinite grenades and ammo, so you never run out.
sv_grenade_trajectory 1 (and sv_grenade_trajectory_time 10) – Shows the flight path of thrown grenades (very useful for lining up throws).
bot_kick – Removes all bots from the map so they don’t get in the way.
mp_buy_anywhere 1 – Allows buying items from anywhere on the map.
mp_roundtime_defuse 60 (and mp_roundtime 60) – Sets round time to 60 minutes so you won’t accidentally end the round while practicing.
mp_restartgame 1 – Restarts the round immediately.
mp_limitteams 0, mp_autoteambalance 0 (Optional) – Prevents auto team-balancing if you add bots
mp_maxmoney 60000, mp_startmoney 60000 to give yourself full funds.

Using these commands will give you infinite grenades, no round time pressure, and a clean map in your own private match.

Turning On Utility Guide

As mentioned, with Valve's newest feature, you can turn on a utility guide inside a casual server, which will help you learn necessary smoke line-ups.

To activate it, there are two methods.

1. Before opening a server, make sure to switch on the practice toggle named "Use Map Guide". Then, you'll need to go to the Steam Workshop and choose several utility guides. After you join the game, the guide will automatically be present.

2. If you've joined the game without enabling the toggle, you can do it inside the game. Press the ESC button while you're in your server, and you'll see on the left side "No Map Guide". Click on it, and choose the map you've selected from the workshop.

Helpful Binds for Practice

Binds allow you to program common commands to run automatically. This means you have more time for throwing smoke grenades and less time spent pressing keys. Here are a few binds that you may find useful:

Noclip Bind: Use a key to activate flying. If you type "bind n noclip" in the console, every time you press N, the noclip will turn on/off. You may then use flying to examine the landing of your grenades from any desired view or switch positions quickly.

Spawn Grenades: Instead of buying grenades, you may bind keys that spawn utility. An example of a bind that spawns a smoke grenade is: "bind k give weapon_smokegrenade". This bind will spawn a smoke grenade every time you hit the K key. You may bind other items in the same way.
